B.B. King Blues Club & Grill New York to Present George Duke Tribute
The B.B. King Blues Club & Grill New York will present “A Special Tribute to George Duke: A Benefit to Fight Leukemia & Lymphoma” this Saturday, Aug. 10, to honor the legendary keyboardist, composer and producer.
Duke, who passed away on Aug. 5 at age 67, was originally scheduled to perform at the club that evening. He had been battling chronic lymphocytic leukemia before his death. (To read Duke’s full obituary, click here.)
“George was scheduled to perform at B.B. King’s in Times Square this Saturday night—a performance we were very much looking forward to,” the club reported in an open letter to the music community. “To honor George, the show must go on.
“All ticket-holders for George’s show are welcome to join us. Additional announcements regarding the show will be made as soon as possible.”
The letter continued, promising that the show will be one that “George would be proud of musically and as a friend.”
The club will also be collecting donations in Duke’s name for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
