Mario Forte Claims Top Prize at Seifert Competition

  I

Poland recently hosted the Seifert Competition, which concluded with a gala concert on July 28. The winner of the third annual violin competition was Mario Forte, a Franco-Italian performer who now is based in New York City. Layth Sidiq came in second; Gabriel Terracciano came in third; and Amalia Obrębowska was awarded the audience prize.

The event is named in honor of the prominent Polish jazz musician Zbigniew Seifert (1946–79).

In addition to the competition, the event also included performances by jazz stars, such as guitarist John Scofield and keyboardist John Medeski. For additional information about the competition and festival, visit its homepage. DB
