    Prophet-5 Returns

Sequential has announced the reintroduction of the Prophet-5, the company’s most famous instrument. The Prophet-5 features five voices with two multi-waveform analog oscillators; resonant, analog low-pass filters and amplifiers; and a filter and amplifier envelope per voice. A multi-waveshape LFO and Poly Mod provide modulation. Other modern enhancements include velocity sensitivity and aftertouch to increase expressiveness, as well as MIDI and USB connectivity. Control voltage and gate ins/outs also are present for connecting modular synths and other gear.

    Snark Goes Silver

Danelectro has released the Silver Snark, an updated version of the original Snark clip-on tuner introduced in 2010. The Silver Snark delivers precise guitar tuning at lightning-fast speeds, and it’s able to detect even minor changes in pitch on lower-register instruments like baritone guitars or multi-string basses. Its build is light but robust with rubber collar joints and a vibrant LCD screen. Invented by Charles Goodyear, this affordable tuner is made of the same material used in car tires and is resistant to solvents and impervious to moderate heat and cold.

    Chaos & Creation

Generate, a marquee polysynth developed by Newfangled Audio and distributed by Eventide, combines all the features expected in a first-class synthesizer with oscillators to create complex pads, warm keys, sequenced basses and leads. Generate is based on a set of chaotic generators. What looks like randomness contains underlying patterns, interconnectedness, constant feedback loops, repetition, self-similarity, fractals and self-organization. Each of Generate’s five chaotic generators bring out these underlying patterns and create an oscillator that can smoothly fade from a sine wave to total chaos. The musical textures created include distortion, harmonics, grunge, static and noise—all of which can be predictably or unpredictably modulated.

    Digital Sax

The Yamaha YDS-150 Digital Saxophone emulates an authentic saxophone-playing experience while maintaining a sense of unity between the instrument and musician. Unlike MIDI wind controllers, the YDS-150 incorporates a key structure that replicates that of a traditional saxophone. Additionally, a genuine brass bell enhances the acoustic presence of the instrument thanks to the company’s new proprietary Integrated Bell Acoustic System technology.
