Songlines Releases Two Albums In SACD

Songlines has released two albums—Wayne Horvitz’s Sweeter Than The Day and Misha Mengelberg’s Four In One—in Super Audio CD (SACD) format. The new audio technology offers five-channel high-definition playback in special SACD players. In addition, the discs play as regular CDs in normal CD players.

Sweeter Than The Day, recorded in January 2001, finds keyboardist Horvitz in an primarily acoustic setting, with guitarist Timothy Young, bassist Keith Lowe and drummer Andy Roth.

Dutch pianist/composer Mengelberg’s Four In One finds him in a group with trumpeter Dave Douglas, bassist Brad Jones and longtime colleague Han Bennink on drums. The set includes original tunes and Thelonious Monk compositions that the group played during a week-long gig at New York’s Iridium.
