Jazz at Lincoln Center and Artistic Director Wynton Marsalis, announced the 2009-10 season programming featuring concerts, education events, broadcasts, touring and a line-up of guest music directors. This is the organization’s 23rd season of programming and begins the sixth season in its home, Frederick P. Rose Hall.
“This season we are reinvigorated about providing the best jazz music to uplift people during these challenging times,” Marsalis said. “From the JLCO swinging as hard as they do, to the holiday and family concerts, the well of jazz music runs deep and has provided inspiration, nourishment, happiness and uplift down through the generations regardless of circumstance.”
“Through international collaborations, new works and revelations from the great history of this music, Jazz at Lincoln Center continues to offer programming for all tastes, ages and budgets,” said Adrian Ellis, Executive Director of Jazz at Lincoln Center.
Highlights of the season include the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra concerts featuring the music of Marsalis, J@LC Orchestra saxophonist Ted Nash and pianists including Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Bill Evans, Herbie Hancock, Marcus Roberts and Mary Lou Williams; Ornette Coleman makes his Rose Theater debut; guest music directors including Mario Adnet, Monty Alexander, Pablo Aslan, Wess “Warmdaddy” Anderson, Bill Charlap, Andy Farber, Wycliffe Gordon, Carlos Henriquez, Ali Jackson, Ted Nash, Kenny Washington and Matt Wilson; Mary Lou Williams’ centennial celebration that includes JLCO series concerts featuring Geoffrey Keezer and Geri Allen, Jazz For Young People, the Essentially Ellington program; and a Fats Waller Festival that features Judy Carmichael, Andy Farber, Dick Hyman and Marcus Roberts.

“It kind of slows down, but it’s still kind of productive in a way, because you have something that you can be inspired by,” Andy Bey said on a 2019 episode of NPR Jazz Night in America, when he was 80. “The music is always inspiring.”
