Jazz at Lincoln Center to Host Kings of the Crescent City

Jazz at Lincoln Center will hold Kings of the Crescent City Jan. 11 and 12, at the Rose Theater in New York. The concert will feature the music of Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, Joe “King” Oliver and Sidney Bechet.

Led by Victor Goines, the ensemble comprised predominately of New Orleans natives will consist of trumpeters Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews and Marcus Printup, trombonist Wycliffe Gordon, Don Vappie on guitar, pianist Jonathan Batiste, bassist Reginald Veal and Herlin Riley on drums.

The show is one of Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Nesuhi Ertegun Jazz Hall of Fame concert series and will be hosted by actor Wendell Pierce.

There will be free pre-concert lectures both nights at 7 p.m. in the Irene Diamond Education Center: Goines will discuss the music of New Orleans and four of its practitioners - Louis Armstrong, Jelly Roll Morton, King Oliver and Sidney Bechet. Goines will be joined by Jazz at Lincoln Center’s Education Manager Ken Druker for these lectures.
