ArtistShare to Release Album From Guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel

Guitarist Kurt Rosenwinkel’s two-disc release, The Remedy: Live At The Village Vanguard (ArtistShare), will hit the streets on Feb. 26.

“I’m looking forward to making this album work in the new industry paradigm,” Rosenwinkel said. “I have a positive outlook on the situation and believe it’s a good time to be an entrepreneur. I am grateful to have had the support of a label like Verve, but I am also looking forward to not having to pay for CEO salaries, Times Square office space, Blackberrys and expense accounts with my record sales.”

Rosenwinkel leads the quintet with Mark Turner on tenor sax, Aaron Goldberg on piano, Joe Martin on bass and Eric Harland on drums. Much of the material played during the week in January 2006 was new and previously unrecorded.

The 12/8 piece “View From Moscow” and “Terra Nova” were inspired by Rosenwinkel’s visit to Russia. “It was interesting to contemplate the western world from that location,” he said. “The city planning embodies such a completely different ideology. Being in the midst of Moscow’s epic scale makes one feel the radically different ways people can live from each other.”

Rosenwinkel’s group while on tour will be Rosenwinkel on guitar, Turner on saxophones, Aaron Parks piano on keyboards, electronics, bassist Ben Street and Obed Calvaire on drums.

Tour dates include:
Feb. 26–March 2: The Village Vanguard, New York
March 7–8: Chris’ Jazz Cafe, Philadelphia
March 9: The Iron House, Northampton, Mass.
March 13–14: Regattabar, Cambridge, Mass.
March 15–16: Dazzle, Denver
