Bitches Brew To Be Re-created Onstage

  I

Miles Davis’ seminal fusion album, Bitches Brew will be performed in its entirety at New York’s Merkin Concert Hall, 129 W. 67th St., on Dec. 9.

Saxophonist Bob Belden, who has helped Columbia Records with its Davis reissue program, will lead the performance with his group, Animation. Trumpeter Tim Hagans, keyboardist Scott Kinsey, bassist Matthew Garrison and drummer Zach Danziger will also be part of the group. In a nod to musical trends that emerged years after Bitches Brew was recorded in 1969, DJ Logic and DJ Kingsize will perform with the band on turntables.

“Cerebral and academic thought is a different way to approach music,” Flea says of his continuing dive into jazz. “I’ve always relied on emotion and intuition and physicality.”
