Charlap’s Trio to Open for Steely Dan

  I

Pianist Bill Charlap, bassist Peter Washington and drummer Kenny Washington will open for Steely Dan at New York’s Beacon Theatre on June 13 and 14. Charlap previously worked with Steely Dan in 2003, playing piano on two tracks—“Pixeleen” and “Godwhacker”—of the group’s 2003 release, Everything Must Go.

Charlap was recently in the studio for Blue Note, serving as pianist and musical director for the label’s forthcoming 70th anniversary tribute album and upcoming 50-plus city tour in 2009. He is also about to begin his third year as curator for the annual “Jazz in July” series at the 92nd Street Y, July 22-31.
