A lineup with the likes of Jimmy Heath, Donald Harrison, Terri Lyne Carrington and Kenny Garrett has been announced for the Charlie Parker Festival, Aug. 21-22, in New York.
On Aug. 21, the festival will take place in Marcus Garvey Park in Harlem, and on Aug. 22 it will take place at Tompkins Square Park in the East Village. For the 12th annual festival, Heath will present a new composition, “Bird Is The Word,” commissioned by City Parks Foundation, which took over the festival in 2003.
