Chicago Improvising Group The Engines Prepares Debut Album, Tour

  I

The Engines has announced a 13-date North American tour for December to coincide with the release of its self-titled debut on Okkadisk. This collaborative band features four mainstays of the Chicago jazz and improvised music scene, with Jeb Bishop on trombone, Dave Rempis on saxophones, Nate McBride on bass, and Tim Daisy on drums.

The Engines started as a trio with a residency at Chicago’s Empty Bottle in the summer of 2005. Bishop was added as a regular member after he joined them for one concert in May of 2006, since the dynamic of the group as a quartet worked so well. Since then, they’ve worked regularly in Chicago at many of the venues associated with creative music, including The Hideout, Elastic, The Hungry Brain, and The Velvet Lounge.

Tour dates are:

Dec. 5: Rochester, N.Y., Bop Shop Records
Dec. 6: Toronto, Array Music Studios
Dec. 7: Montreal, Sala Rossa
Dec. 8: Middlebury, Conn., Middlebury College
Dec. 9: Burlington, Vt., Firehouse Gallery
Dec. 10: Brooklyn, Union Hall
Dec. 11: Philadelphia, TBA
Dec. 12: Washington, D.C., Sangha
Dec. 13: Chapel Hill, N.C., Nightlights
Dec. 14: Columbia, S.C., University of South Carolina
