Dave Burrell and Billy Martin Team Up For New Disc

Pianist Dave Burrell and percussionist Billy Martin have joined together for a new live duo recording, Consequences (Amulet).

Burrell, who has been recording a vast range of jazz styles since the 1960s, may be best known for his work with David Murray, Pharoah Sanders and Archie Shepp. Martin is part of the popular Medeski, Martin and Wood trio.

“I heard Dave play a solo before our set that summed up his incredible range and compositional genius,” Martin said. “He’s my hero.”

The five tracks on the disc are Burrell’s original compositions or collaborative works between Burrell and Martin.
