Fest to Celebrate Women in Jazz

International Women In Jazz and Midtown Arts Common will present its second annual jazz festival April 4–6 at Saint Peter’s Church in New York. Celia Cruz, Ella Fitzgerald and Peggy Lee will be honored with displays of their photographs and music. Sarah McLawler, Marian McPartland and Carline Ray will also be honored and participate in a panel discussion.

The festival will include a live jazz jam with college students and other musicians, a business management panel discussion, “What Is Jazz?” workshop for youth, concerts featuring bands led by women musicians and concerts Saturday and Sunday evenings.

Some of the artists scheduled to play include McPartland, Joan Cartwright and Jazz Hotline, McLawler, Jan Leder Quartet, Pauline Jean Quartet, Catherine Russell and Carline Ray Quartet.
