Producer George Avakian received the prestigious Django D’Or award at the Pavillon Baltard in Paris on Nov. 30.

Avakian said, “The have cited the creation in the 1950s at Columbia of the widest-ranging and most successful popular album catalog the world has ever seen.” After reflecting on how this led to the ascendancy of the 12-inch LP and, later, the compact disc, he added that he hopes he, “doesn’t get blamed for all the downloading that’s followed.”
