James Blood Ulmer Records New Album In New Orleans

Guitarist James Blood Ulmer is recording his new album at Piety Street Studios in New Orleans and the disc features a cycle of songs about Hurricane Katrina and its aftermath.

Ulmer’s new songs on the as-yet-untitled disc (to be released on Hyena) include “Survivors Of The Hurricane,” “Let’s Talk About Jesus” and “Slave Master.” He is also interpreting tunes by Junior Kimbrough, Howlin’ Wolf, Bessie Smith and Son House. Vernon Reid is producing the album.

Along with a May release date, Ulmer will be touring the United States in Europe this spring.
