Pianist Jason Moran is finishing up his Artist In Residence (Blue Note), which is scheduled for release on Sept. 12.

The disc is a collection of Moran’s new compositions that resulted from his major arts commissions. These pieces include “Milestone,” “The Feel Of Things,” “The Shape,” and “Rain.” Moran wrote these songs after receiving grants from the Walker Art Center, Dia Foundation and Jazz at Lincoln Center.

Along with Moran’s Bandwagon (guitarist Marvin Sewell, bassist Tarus Mateen and drummer Nasheet Waits), guests on Artist In Residence include vocalist Alicia Hall Moran and trumpeter Ralph Alessi.
