Jay Azzolina Gets Multilingual On Local Dialect

  I

Guitarist Jay Azzolina has drawn on a range of diverse musical languages and colleagues for his new disc, Local Dialect (Garagista Music). This array includes organ-trio funk with Larry Goldings on “Mind Your Mind” as well as an acoustic guitar and percussion duo with Brazilian drummer Cyro Baptista on “Angel’s Dance.”

“I just wanted to do something with a lot of different elements,” Azzolina said. “Rather than just do an all-straightahead record, an all-backbeat-urban record, or whatever. I just decided to let different kinds of music come out as it may. Actually, it was a lot of fun.”
