Julliard Jazz Director Steps Down

Victor L. Goines is stepping down as artistic director of Juilliard Jazz to pursue his performing and recording career, The Juilliard School announced Thursday.

Goines had been director of the New York program since its creation in 2000 while also teaching jazz clarinet and saxophone as a member of Juilliard’s faculty. During his tenure, the jazz department expanded from its original collaborative program with Jazz at Lincoln Center, called the Institute for Jazz Studies, and added bachelor’s and master’s degree programs to its curriculum.

Jazz drummer and Julliard faculty member Carl Allen will be interim director.
