Japanese koto player Miya Masaoka will premiere new solo work as well as pieces for her Chironomy Trio at New York’s Merkin Concert Hall on Oct. 5.

Masaoka will perform this new work on her laser koto, an instrument that she invented as an extension of the koto. Her trio also includes tabla player Samir Chatterjee and cornetist Taylor Ho Bynum.

“My main interest now iw towards works with computers, interactivity, sound and media,” Masaoka said.
