Marian McPartland plans 85th Birthday Celebration

For one set Friday night, March 21, Birdland in New York will turn into grand birthday bash for pianist Marian McPartland, who will celebrate her birthday in style with many of her musical friends.

The legendary pianist/composer/educator/radio host and all around jazz ambassador will be joined by Karrin Allyson, Barbara Carroll, Regina Carter, Bill Charlap, Ravi Coltrane, Dave Douglas, Jon Faddis, Nnenna Freelon, Jim Hall, Jackie King, Jason Moran, Chris Potter, Loren Schoenberg, Curtis Stigers, Dr. Billy Taylor, Clark Terry, George Wein, Phil Woods, and more. Peter Jennings will host and comedian Alan King will also make an appearance. McPartland will perform with her guests featuring two different rhythm sections: bassist Bill Crow and drummer Joe Morello, and bassist Gary Mazzaroppi and drummer Glenn Davis.
