Martial Solal To Celebrate 80th With Vanguard Run

  I

French pianist Martial Solal turned 80 last month, and he’ll celebrate the occasion with a solo piano week at the Village Vanguard in New York. The residency will run Oct. 9-14.

Solal is considered one of Europe’s finest jazz musicians, though he remains an obscure figure in the United States. This will only be his fifth appearance in New York despite a career spanning four decades.

Solal’s record label, CAM, will be recording his solo performances for a future Live at the Village Vanguard release. To purchase tickets, visit villagevanguard.com.
