McCoy Tyner Launches New CD, Label

  I

Pianist McCoy Tyner has released his latest CD, Quartet, on his new label, McCoy Tyner Music.

The live date from the close of 2006 features saxophonist Joe Lovano, bassist Christian McBride and drummer Jeff “Tain” Watts.

The release marks the official launch of Tyner’s imprint, a subsidiary of Half Note Records, the Blue Note’s in-house record label. Tyner plans to release two more albums with his label next year. The first brings bassist Ron Carter and drummer Jack DeJohnette together with five guests—guitarists Bill Frisell, Marc Ribot, John Scofield and Derek Trucks, and banjo player Bela Fleck. A live solo piano record will follow.
