MMW To Release Children’s Disc In November

  I

Medeski Martin & Wood plans to release an album of children’s music later this year, entitled Let’s Go Everywhere.

The disc, which drummer Billy Martin called “my favorite MMW record to date,” will appear under Little Monster Records, a label focused on music for kids. It will include some songs that feature singing from band members’ own children.

The album comes in the midst of an active year for Martin, including a recording project with his new experimental quartet, IOOi, and an upcoming exhibition of his paintings at the Morrison Gallery in Kent, Conn. “She said, ‘A lot of people are going to try and stop you,’” Sheryl Bailey recalls of the advice she received from jazz guitarist Emily Remler (1957–’90). “‘They’re going to say you slept with somebody, you’re a dyke, you’re this and that and the other. Don’t listen to them, and just keep playing.’”
