Monktober At The New School

  I

The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music will celebrate the 90th birthday of Thelonius Monk with two October concerts.

The special events will feature top artists including Slide Hampton, Junior Mance, Jimmy Owens, Ben Allison and Matt Wilson. The legendary pianist and composer will be honored with two different takes on his work: an October 10 concert, “The Monk Influence,” will present his compositions in their mainstream tradition, while an October 30 concert, “The Monk Confluence,” will re-imagine them in a contemporary way.

The concerts are part of Jazz Presents, an annual series at The New School that showcases the work of New School jazz faculty in collaboration with rising stars—New School jazz alumni and students.

Both events are $10 general admission, free to all students and New School faculty, staff and alumni with ID. For more details, see jazz.newschool.edu.
