The Next Generation Festival, which includes Monterey Jazz Festival’s 38th Annual National High School Jazz Competition, will take place in downtown Monterey from April 3-6, 2008.

The Competition is accepting applications from middle school, high school and college big bands, high school combos and vocal jazz ensembles through Jan. 25, 2008. A new addition to the Festival is the category of conglomerate bands for 2008.

The four-day event will include performances and competitions, with awards going to the best groups. The event also includes a Composition Competition open to high school composers, with the winning piece to be debuted at the 51st Annual Monterey Jazz Festival taking place Sept. 19-21, 2008.

Application forms may be downloaded at the Monterey Jazz Festival’s website, montereyjazzfestival.org.
