New Discs For Peter Evans, Tyshawn Sorey

Firehouse 12 Records will release the Peter Evans Quartet’s self-titled record and drummer Tyshawn Sorey’s two-disc set That/Not on Nov. 20.

The releases represent coming out parties for the musicians, with both of them recording as leaders for the first time. Both albums were cut and produced by Firehouse 12 at its New York studio.

The Peter Evans Quartet features Evans on trumpet, Brandon Seabrook on guitar, Tom Blancarte on bass and Kevin Shea on drums. DownBeat included Evans in our June issue’s “25 For The Future,” a list of young trumpeters on the rise.

Sorey’s release features his own compositions, with Ben Gerstein on trombone, Corey Smythe on piano and Thomas Morgan on bass. Sorey is featured in next month’s issue of DownBeat.
