New School to Present Brazilian Ensemble

The New School for Jazz and Contemporary Music will present an evening of Brazilian jazz at Jazz At Lincoln Center’s Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola April 7 in New York.

Brazilian musician and New School Jazz faculty member Richard Boukas was established the New School Brazilian Jazz Ensemble in 1995 to showcase this music to a wider New York audience. Since its start, students have performed more than 200 works representing contemporary Brazilian jazz composers, most notably multi-instrumentalist and composer Hermeto Pascoal.

This performance at Dizzy’s will feature contemporary music of Pascoal, Jovino Santos Neto, Guinga, Sérgio Santos, Léa Freire, Toninho Ferragutti, Teco Cardoso, Boukas, Johnny Alf and Ary Barroso. Boukas will join the ensemble on select pieces.
