Poetic Release from Ron Blake

  I

Shayari, Ron Blake’s third Mack Avenue CD showcases an unplugged trio setting. The album features pianist and producer Michael Cain and guests Jack DeJohnette, Christian McBride, Regina Carter, and percussionist Gilmar Gomes.

Blake has recorded three CDs as a leader and has recorded with Roy Hargrove, Art Farmer, the Christian McBride Band and Yerba Buena. The musician is also entering his third season as a member of NBC’s Saturday Night Live Band.

Blake said of his new recording, Shayari (meaning poetry), “This record is more introspective then earlier projects. It’s an acoustic collection of trios. Compositionally, it lends itself to some of the ideas introduced on my most recent recording, Sonic Tonic, but in an acoustic setting.”
