Rudresh Mahanthappa Releases Codebook

  I

Saxophonist Rudresh Mahanthappa has released his new disc, Codebook (Pi), which is his follow-up to Mother Tongue from 2004.

The recording features Mahanthappa’s working group of pianist Vijay Iyer, bassist Francois Moutin and drummer Dan Weiss. Mahanthappa has said that the music on Codebook stems from ideas related to cryptography. His track, “Play It Again, Sam,” is dedicated to Samuel Morse. The inspiration behind his “Decider” is well known to White House observers.
