Guitarist Russell Malone will release his first live recording, Live At Jazz Standard Volume One (MaxJazz) on Oct. 10.

The disc features Malone with his working band of pianist Martin Bejerano, bassist Tassili Bond and drummer Jonathan Blake. Along with five original Malone compositions, the disc includes the quartet’s interpretation of the standard “Blue Daniel” and Milt Jackson’s “Heartstrings.”

“I’ve been working with Martin, Tassili and Jonathan for quite some time now,” Malone said. “They are some of the finest musicians you’ll find anywhere.”

“Cerebral and academic thought is a different way to approach music,” Flea says of his continuing dive into jazz. “I’ve always relied on emotion and intuition and physicality.”
