The San Francisco based SFJAZZ octet has announced that trumpeter Dave Douglas will replace Nicholas Payton in its 2007 line-up. SFJAZZ will also feature the works of Thelonious Monk in its performances during the coming year.

“This new season promises to bring some of our greatest musical challenges and rewards to date,” said tenor saxophonist and SFJAZZ artistic director Joshua Redman. “To rehears and premiere our own originals in the context of Monk’s music is sure to inspire exciting new directions in the collective’s sound.”

Along with Redman and Douglas, SFJAZZ will also include vibraphonist Bobby Hutcherson, alto saxophonist Miguel Zenon, trombonist Andre Hayward, pianist Renee Rosnes, bassist Matt Penman and drummer Eric Harland.
