Wein Celebrates His Birthday in Style

Jazz impresario George Wein won’t celebrate his 82nd birthday on Oct. 3 not by presenting a concert. Rather, he’ll be behind a piano playing some of his favorite tunes at Dizzy’s Club Coca-Cola at Jazz at Lincoln Center. This week, Oct. 2-7, he is leading his Newport All-stars for two sets (7:30 p.m. and 9:30 p.m.) each night. The group features Wein on piano, Randy Brecker on trumpet, Lew Tabackin on tenor saxophone and flute, Peter Washington on bass, drummer Kenny Washington and guitarist Howard Alden.
