(Photo: Noe Cugny)Cyrille Aimée’s adoration of Stephen Sondheim’s work is plainly clear after taking a listen to the vocalist’s new album, Move On: A Sondheim Adventure (Mack Avenue).
Below, find the debut of “Being Alive,” a tune featured on the new recording, due out Feb. 22.
Aimée takes the composition from the 1970 musical comedy Company and loosens it up, bringing a different sort of theatricality to the mix. Strings still prop up the song’s opening, but the singer moves her band into salsa territory following the melody’s exposition, adding a joyful tint to the 49-year-old composition.
