Clean Feed Plans Four New Releases

  I

The Portuguese label Clean Feed will release four albums in late November. Manifold, from saxophonist Steve Lehman’s quartet, follows Lehman’s earlier releases Interface (Clean Feed) and Artificial Light (Fresh Sound).

Stephen Gauci’s Basso Continuo, referring to the twin double-bass backbone Mike Bisio and Ingebrigt Haker-Flaten provide to Stephen Gauci’s quartet, features original compositions by the quartet.

Saxophonist Tony Malaby joins William Parker, double bass, and Nasheet Waits, drums, on Tamarindo. All music on the disk was composed by Malaby.

The MI 3’s Free Advice features Pandelis Karayorgis, piano, Nate McBride, bass, and Curt Newton, drums. The early release in the Clean Feed catalog from mi3, We Will Make a Home for You, differs greatly from this offering. Instead of the Fender Rhodes and the setting of that vintage instrument in a 21st century context, Karayorgis plays a grand piano. The album features an arrangement of Duke Ellington’s “The Mystery Song,” inspired by Steve Lacy’s version on his 1961 album Evidence.
