Jazzfestival Saalfelden has announced several confirmed acts for its 44th edition, to be held Aug. 22–25.

Based in Saalfelden Leogang in the Austrian state of Salzburg, this year’s festival will feature Mona Matbou Riahi, Daniel Erdmann, Kris Davis, Johnathan Blake, Théo Ceccaldi, Oli Steidle, Judith Schwarz and numerous others. James Brandon Lewis will meet The Messthetics, and the saxophonist will explore a variety of musical styles in a performance with bassist Joe Lally, drummer Brendan Canty and guitarist Anthony Pirog. The festival will also present the bold improvisations of the boundary-pushing ensemble Amirtha Kidambi’s Elder Ones. Another confirmed act, The End, will combine free-jazz, straightahead jazz and hard rock in a performance featuring vocalist Sofia Jernberg.

Tickets for the paid concerts on the Mainstage and Otto-Gruberhalle, as well as the Short Cuts, can be ordered by clicking HERE.

“She said, ‘A lot of people are going to try and stop you,’” Sheryl Bailey recalls of the advice she received from jazz guitarist Emily Remler (1957–’90). “‘They’re going to say you slept with somebody, you’re a dyke, you’re this and that and the other. Don’t listen to them, and just keep playing.’”
