Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra Announces Summer Tour

  I

This summer, the Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra (LCJO) with Wynton Marsalis will extend its United in Swing Tour internationally. The LCJO will kick off the Summer 2002 Tour with three outdoor performances in New York City. On July 4, the LCJO will perform a free afternoon concert at Historic Battery Park, also featuring the Juilliard
Jazz Ensemble and the debut performance of the Afro-Latin Jazz Orchestra. The LCJO will also make an appearance at the Celebrate Brooklyn! festival in Prospect Park on July 5, and Midsummer Night Swing at Lincoln Center on July 6.

The LCJO will then perform concerts in halls and festivals in France, Italy, Switzerland, and England. These include a collaboration with the BBC Philharmonic in Manchester, a swing dance program at the world-renowned BBC Proms at Royal Albert Hall in London, and a performance celebrating the 25th anniversary of the Marciac Jazz Festival in France (where Marsalis performs annually).

On this tour, the LCJO will perform a different program every night, drawing on a vast repertoire that spans the history of jazz – including masterpieces by Jelly Roll Morton, Louis Armstrong, Duke Ellington, John Coltrane, Charles Mingus, and others, as well as original compositions and arrangements by Mr. Marsalis and fellow LCJO members Ted Nash, Ron Westray and others.
