Stanton Moore Plans U.S. Tour

  I

Drummer Stanton Moore has announced a tour for the month of March. These dates are to support the Feb. 26 release of Flyin’ The Koop, Moore’s debut on Blue Thumb Records. The drummer of the immensely popular “steamroller funk” band Galactic, Moore continues to expand his musical vision with this release and tour.

Joining Moore on this trek across the U.S. are bassist Chris Wood (of Medeski Martin & Wood), guitarist Brian Seeger (New Orleans luminary and a member of Moore & More), and saxophonist Skerik; all appear on Flyin’ The Koop. Also joining the band is John Ellis on tenor sax, flute and bass clarinet.

The album’s 12 tracks are groove-driven, jazz-informed, and stylistically eclectic, ranging from rhythmic cookers to straight-ahead jazz launches; from melodic beauties to raunchy funk-rompers. Saxophonist Karl Denson (co-founder of seminal acid jazz band the Greyboy Allstars and leader of Tiny Universe) and the Wild Magnolias Mardi Gras Indians also contribute to the disc.

In addition to his drumming duties with Galactic, Moore has been devoting his spare time to playing in various other bands, including the New Orleans Klezmer All Stars (a group that mixes traditional klezmer with street beats); his own hometown organ quartet Moore & More; and Garage a Trois with eight-string guitar wiz Charlie Hunter and Skerik.
