Guitarist Chuck Loeb Joins Heads Up

Guitarist Chuck Loeb has signed to Heads Up and will release his next disc, Presence on the label on Jan. 23, 2007. The recording features Loeb’s original compositions, as well as a new interpretation of Steely Dan’s “Rikki Don’t Lose That Number.”

“A lot of music gets created in a laboratory,” Loeb said. “We all have computers and we do things long distance, but it never ceases to amaze me how, as soon as you put the live musicians into the equation, it’s their presence that brings the thing to life.”

Hammond came to the blues through the folk boom of the late 1950s and early 1960s, which he experienced firsthand in New York’s Greenwich Village.

“Cerebral and academic thought is a different way to approach music,” Flea says of his continuing dive into jazz. “I’ve always relied on emotion and intuition and physicality.”
