Mickey Hart, Zakir Hussain To Release Album

  I

Percussionists Mickey Hart and Zakir Hussain, whose 1991 release Planet Drum won a Grammy Award for Best World Music Album, will release a new collaboration Oct. 2. Global Drum Project (Shout! Factory) is a collection of tranced-out grooves, electronic programming and hypnotic tuned percussion that follows last year’s Planet Drum reunion tour.

Produced by Hart and Hussain, the album once again enlists the partnership of Sikuru Adepoju (Nigerian talking drum) and Giovanni Hidalgo (congas), as well as Taufiq Qureshi (brother of Hussain) on percussion and vocals, Niladari Kumar on sitar, Dilshad Khan on sarangi, and sampled vocals by the late Olatunji. The ensemble will tour the U.S. this fall in support of the release.
