Trio of Doom Live Set Released

  I

Columbia/Legacy released Trio of Doom, an album of largely unreleased live and studio material from fusion giants John McLaughlin, Jaco Pastorius and Tony Williams, on Tuesday.

The disc captures 25 minutes of previously unreleased music performed live in Havana in 1979, coupled with five tracks recorded the next week at Columbia Studios in New York City, including two previously unreleased alternate takes.

The album, produced for reissue by guitarist McLaughlin, commemorates two bittersweet anniversaries—20 years since the death of bassist Pastorius in 1987, at the age of 35; and 10 years since the death of drummer Williams, at age 51.
