The Russian war has claimed the life of beloved Ukrainian jazz musician Sergey Artemov. The 29-year-old bassist died April 18 in a battle near Bakhmut, in the eastern Donetsk region, illegally annexed last year by Russia.

Based in the city of Dnipro, Artemov was known for his trio, Vibe, and for his work with the Danylo Vinarikov Ensemble, the Elevation Trio and the Dark Side Trio. A post by the Ukrainian Institute memorialized his passing: “We will all remember him as great musician, wonderful person and defender of Ukraine.” DB
