Jane Ira Bloom Teams Up With Dancer

  I

Soprano saxophonist Jane Ira Bloom has collaborated with dancer Carmen deLavallade to create “The 5th Wheel,” a performance piece for jazz quartet and solo dancer.

The pair—along with Rufus Reid on bass, Jerry Granelli on drums and Dawn Clement on piano—will debut the work Sept. 28 at the New York City Center “Fall for Dance” Festival.

The program will feature deLavallade’s original choreography, which explores the relationship between a dancer on wheels and a musician on the loose. The music is based on Bloom’s original piece “Ice Dancing.”
