LCJO Hits Road To Swing

  I

The Lincoln Center Jazz Orchestra will once again be leaving their home in New York for a nationwide tour from Sept. 19 through Dec. 6.

Wynton Marsalis and his crew will kick off the “Out Here To Swing” tour, with compositions by Marsalis and other members of the orchestra plus Ellington, Mingus and Coltrane, in Philadelphia. They end up in Boston Dec. 3, 4 and 6 for a performance of their latest CD release, “All Rise” with help from the Boston Symphony Orchestra directed by Kurt Masur and the Tanglewood Festival Chorus.

Throughout the tour, members of the big band will also lead a variety of educational events including master classes, lectures, clinics and Jazz For Young People concerts.

The LCJO has been Jazz At Lincoln Center’s resident orchestra since 1988. Trumpeters Marsalis, Seneca Black, Ryan Kisor and Marcus Printup, trombonists Ron Westray, André Hayward and Vincent Gardner, reedsmen Wess Anderson, Walter Blanding, Victor Goines, Kurt Bacher and Joe Temperley, pianist Eric Lewis, bassist Carlos Henriquez and drummer Herlin Riley make up its members.
