Ben Paterson, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, receives a first-place prize of $25,000, at the inaugural Ellis Marsalis International Jazz Piano Competition, which was held at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia, on June 22 and 23. With the pianist is Jason Marsalis (left), Ellis Marsalis and the Nu Jazz Agency’s Jerald Miller.
