Billy Strayhorn Featured In Upcoming Documentary

A 90-minute documentary about composer Billy Strayhorn will debut on Feb. 6, 2007. Entitled Billy Strayhorn: Lush Life , the film will air as part of the PBS network’s Independent Lens series.

Along with the documentary, Blue Note is releasing its soundtrack on Jan. 23. The disc will feature Bill Charlap, Joe Lovano, Dianne Reeves, Hank Jones, Elvis Costello and other musicians performing 15 Strayhorn compositions.

    Hammond came to the blues through the folk boom of the late 1950s and early 1960s, which he experienced firsthand in New York’s Greenwich Village.
