The 17th Season will kick off with internationally renowned jazz guitarist Pat Metheny taking the MCG Jazz stage on October 10-12, 2003 for a six-show run. The season schedule is as follows:
Oct. 10-12: Pat Metheny Trio
Oct. 23-26: Russell Malone and Benny Green
Nov. 13-16: Sergio Mendes & Brasil 2003
Dec. 4-7: Dave Holland Quintet

March 18-21, 2004: Caribbean Jazz Project
April 15-18, 2004: Jazz Across The Americas Concert
April 29-May 2, 2004: Clayton Hamilton Jazz Orchestra
The Jazz Across The Americas concert is being co-curated by the Chicago Jazz Series, the Contemporary Arts Center of New Orleans, Detroit Jazz Festival, Kuumbwa Jazz Center (Santa Cruz, CA), MCG Jazz, Monterey Jazz Festival, Syracuse JazzFest, Tri-C JazzFest Cleveland, Vancouver International Jazz Festival Coastal Jazz & Blues Society (Vancouver, B.C.), and “We Always Swing” Jazz Series (Columbia, MO). The project will bring together artists from each region, forming an “all-star” ensemble to celebrate North America’s rich musical history. The ensemble’s repertoire will represent each region’s connection and heritage to jazz, i.e., a Louis Armstrong tune to represent New Orleans, a Billy Strayhorn song to represent Pittsburgh, etc. Jazz Across The Americas will premiere in Pittsburgh April 15-18, 2004, and will then appear in Cleveland for one day on the Jazz On The Circle Series. The collaboration will be programmed at partner sites throughout 2004.
MCG Jazz is a program of Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild. The Manchester Craftsmen’s Guild Music Hall is located at 1815 Metropolitan Street, North Shore. Artists are subject to change. Single tickets will go on sale Sept. 2, 2003. For ticket information call 412-322-0800.
“Cerebral and academic thought is a different way to approach music,” Flea says of his continuing dive into jazz. “I’ve always relied on emotion and intuition and physicality.”
