New Jazz Festival Hits Canadian Rockies

The first Canmore International Jazz Festival will be held on June 10 in this Alberta town in the Canadian Rockies.

This free scenic event is being held as part of Canmore’s artsPeak Arts Festival. Confirmed performers include alto saxophonist P.J. Perry, trumpeter Ben Miles, and bassists Neil Swainson, John Hyde, Michael Bates and Kodi Hutchinson. The Valley Winds Big Band as well as the Canmore and Banff school jazz bands are also scheduled to appear.

    Hammond came to the blues through the folk boom of the late 1950s and early 1960s, which he experienced firsthand in New York’s Greenwich Village.
