On Friday, Feb. 10, Patti Austin and the Count Basie Orchestra will perform a benefit concert: For Ella: A Musical Tribute to the Legendary Ella Fitzgerald at Carnegie Hall. The proceeds will go to Building with Books and the New York Therapeutic Riding Centers. Part of the Whiteweld Foundation Concert Series, promoting the health, education, and welfare of children through out the world.
Tickets for the event range from $45 to $200, and can be ordered by calling Carnegie Charge at 212-247-7800 or by going to www.whiteweldconcerts.org.
Hammond came to the blues through the folk boom of the late 1950s and early 1960s, which he experienced firsthand in New York’s Greenwich Village.
