Birdland Hosts BossaBrasil Festival

  I

New York’s Birdland will present BossaBrasil from April 21 to 25. This annual festival, launched in 2007, brings the classic Brazilian sound to the intimate space of the club.

This year’s performers include vocalist Emilio Santiago and guitarist Dori Caymmi’s quartet. Rio De Janeiro-based Santiago, who mixes samba, jazz and soul, has been called Brazil’s modern answer to Nat King Cole. Caymmi has written for and performed with a wealth of Brazilian stars for decades, including a long-time partnership with singer Joyce. His group will also include bassist Sergio Brandau, drummer Celso Alberti and pianist Cidhino Texeiro.

Performances will be at 8:30 and 11:00 p.m. and tickets are $30 and $40.
