JD Allen Readies New Disc, New York Shows

Saxophonist J.D. Allen will release his new disc, I Am – I AM (Sunnyside), in early 2008. The recording also features bassist Gregg August and drummer Rudy Royston.

August will also join Allen for a pair of concerts in anticipation of the disc’s release. They will perform with drummer Marcus Gilmore at The New Yorker Hotel on Oct. 25 as part of the Jazz Improv Live Convention and Festival. Allen, August and Royston will also appear at New York’s Blue Note on Nov. 19.
